Multi-Sports is excited to announce that we will be running swimming lessons from January 2019. These lessons will take place at Lancaster Royal Grammar School Swimming Pool. The Pool has recently been given a ‘face lift’ so that children can enjoy swimming in a warm, clean and friendly environment. We are fortunate enough to have a great team of swimming teachers ready to run these lessons.
Places are limited as we keep the radio of teacher to student is as low as possible, so that the lessons are as valuable to the children as possible.
Lessons available for children aged from 5 - 16 years old. Swimming lessons will not take place during school holidays. Any medical conditions should be reported to the child’s swimming teacher at the start of the first lesson and information given when booking.
Beginners (Stage 1 & 2)
For non-swimmers, this stage covers the initial process of introducing children into the water and aims to develop basic safety awareness, movement and water confidence skills.
Build a sound foundation of watermanship skills, develop safe entries into the water, basic floating, travel on front and back up to a distance of 5m and rotation to upright positions. Children will experiment with different methods of using their limbs for propulsion as well as being introduced to treading water. To move onto Stage 3 children must be able to tread water, swim without support on their front and/or back 25m of a basic standard and be confident in deep water.
4pm – 4:30pm
4pm – 4:30pm & 4:30pm – 5pm
Improvers (Stage 3 & 4)
Develop confidence, initiative, judgement, teamwork and leadership. Children will also develop safe entries into water including submersion, rotation skills and water safety knowledge, as well as building on front and back propulsion.
Improve upon watermanship skills and stroke technique whilst developing an understanding of buoyancy through a range of skills. To move onto Stage 5 children must pass stage 4 and swim 50m to a basic standard.
4:30pm – 5pm
5pm – 5:30pm
Advanced (Stage 5, 6 & 7)
Develop watermanship through sculling, treading water and complete rotation. Swimmers will perform all strokes to a high standard over a short distance.
Develop to a more efficient level including co-ordinated breathing across all strokes. Children will be given an understanding of preparation for exercise. To move on to Stage 7 swimmers must pass stage 6 and swim 200m competently.
5:30pm – 6pm
Multi Aquatics (Stage 5+)
Every week focus on a different aquatic discipline giving the swimmers the opportunity to have a go at something they may not otherwise be able to. Aquatic disciplines include: Water polo, Rookie Lifeguarding, SKWIM (mixture of Water Polo and Ultimate Frisbee) and Swim Skills.
Participants must be ‘Confident Swimmers’ in Stage 5+ or able to swim 50m and tread water for 1 minute. All equipment needed is provided.
